How important is Christian education to you?

Education plays a powerful role in forming the hearts and minds of the next generation.  It defines the path for future generations but it also shows how serious we are about living as God’s holy people for His glory.  The social engineers and humanists of the past century had a vision for the destruction of the Christian faith and education was their tool of choice.  In firm opposition, the ministry of Reformation Bible Church has prioritized a distinctively Biblical educational outreach for over 50 years.    Only a quality, Christian education can provide a strong academic and spiritual foundation for a child.  Through the work of Harford Christian Educational Foundation (“HCEF”), you can help ensure that needed funds are available to Harford Christian School for the children of today and for generations to come.

What is Harford Christian Educational Foundation?

Founded in 1986, HCEF exists to receive, invest, and manage donations for the benefit of Harford Christian School.  Each contribution, regardless of size, is carefully invested and remains part of a permanent, non-spendable asset pool.  In this way, every dollar that is donated to HCEF continues to earn income in the future.  That income is used to provide financial assistance to Harford Christian School.  Supporting HCEF is one of the best ways you can ensure that Christian education thrives in our community for decades to come.

Why support Christian Education?

“Train up a child in the way he should go, and when he is old, he will not depart from it.” Proverbs 22:6

Education is not neutral.  A worldview permeates all aspects of an education. Education without God’s truth is saturated with error. The content of education must be based in the fear of God, which is the single most indispensable element of a Christian education.

“The fear of the LORD is the beginning of knowledge: but fools despise wisdom and instruction.” Proverbs 1:7

Organizations like the National Education Association and the U.S. Department of Education bear enormous influence on public education. The modern secular education forbids even a tacit mention of the fear and worship of God in a classroom. In fact, the U.S. Supreme Court decision Engel v. Vitale (1962), Wallace v. Jaffree (1985), and Lee v. Weisman (1992) officially classified expressions of the fear of God in public classrooms as illegal. If you study the origin and history of modern government-sponsored education, you will find its founders were atheists whose hatred of Christianity is a matter of public record. The government and culture have successfully discipled this nation through their educational programs. We face principalities and powers, ideas and methodologies, that oppose the knowledge of God in Christ. As Martin Luther said, “I advise no one to place his child where the Scriptures do not reign paramount.” Children are not equipped to defend and fight against the hostile secularism woven into the very fabric of public schools. Why would we give our lambs to the wolves?

Our nation’s public schools are far less academically rigorous than they once were. Only 67 percent of all public-school students entering ninth grade graduate with a regular diploma four years later. United States competency in math and science lags other industrial, developed countries. And despite the vast amounts of government money being funnelled to public education, our SAT scores continue to slip. Academically speaking, students at Christian schools consistently out-perform their public-school counterparts. The latest research1 reveals that:

  • Private Christian school students were a full year ahead of students who attend public and charter schools.
  • Christian school students are encouraged to take difficult courses more frequently.
  • Christian schools place higher expectations upon their students.
  • There is more respect shown for teachers and fellow students as part of the culture of Christian schools.
  • Students at Christian schools were less likely to get suspended, get into fights, do drugs, and get involved in bullying.  In contrast, public schools have more frequent occurrences of theft and physical violence, profanity and open rebellion in the classroom.
